"December in Our Town" 12.19.12
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades performed the original "December in Our Town" musical last night at Waukegan High School, in front of a packed auditorium! After MANY LONG weeks of practice, they showed off their acting, dancing, and singing skills, complete with Whittier's own BOY BAND! The play told the story of all the December Holidays that are celebrated, including Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan and Las Posadas.....and the play ended with a SPECTACULAR LIGHT SHOW! Thanks to Mr. Outman and Mrs. Merle for putting on such an AMAZING production, and thanks to all the teachers, parents and family members who came out to support our students! Happy Holidays!
Mrs. V's Class Creates Their Own Board Games 12.19.12
Students in Mrs. Vanlaningham's 4th grade class completed a project about the Northeast Region, culminating in creating their own board games. After they were all finished, they took turns playing each other's games! Games were based on facts and information they learned while doing their research, and counted as their assessment for the unit. Way to go Mrs. V's class!
Mrs. Corona's Class Gets a Letter From The President! 12.19.12
Students in Mrs. Corona’s 2nd grade class studied the electoral process in November and followed the election closely. After President’s Obama re-election, they were so excited, they decided to write personal letters to the President congratulating him on his victory. In December, the students were happy to discover that President Obama had not only received their letters, but he had personally responded to them. Enclosed within his letter were encouraging words about education, dedication, and commitment to leadership. He also included an autographed portrait of himself to display in the classroom for students to remember this memorable process.

Mr. Frichtl's class goes on a scavenger hunt! 12.14.12
Students in Mr. Frichtl's 5th grade class spent some time in the morning on a math and tech related scavenger hunt.
Armed with their own smart phones and tablets, students were on a mission to locate various QR codes placed around the building by Mr. Frichtl. Once they were found, they had to scan them, which then revealed a math problem to solve in order to progress to the next clue.
